1. Introduction

Open Learning Academy (OLA) is a transformative initiative by Amrita Bhoomi, International Centre for Sustainable Development, aimed at empowering India's youth through experiential learning. This one-year residential program selects students from diverse backgrounds and immerses them in agroecology, value-based education, and emerging technologies, shaping them into future leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

2. Vision and Objectives

OLA envisions a holistic education model that integrates indigenous wisdom with modern science to cultivate self-reliant, socially responsible youth.

Objectives:

✔ Promote sustainable living and self-sufficiency through agroecology
✔ Develop ethical leadership and emotional resilience
✔ Strengthen community engagement and collaborative learning
✔ Bridge the gap between traditional knowledge and modern innovations

3. Curriculum Structure

The OLA curriculum is designed around five key elements that foster character, resilience, and holistic development:

Physical Quotient (Health & Well-being)

Daily yoga and fitness routines
Emphasis on nutritious, farm-fresh food habits

Emotional Quotient (Self-awareness & Empathy)

Mindfulness practices and counseling sessions
Emotional intelligence workshops for personal growth

Social Quotient (Collaboration & Leadership)

Hands-on group projects and team-building activities
Community service initiatives with rural and tribal populations

Intellectual Quotient (Curiosity & Innovation)

Agroecology training, digital literacy, and sustainable practices
Project-based learning to solve real-world challenges

Tribe (Community & Cultural Connection)

  • Engagement with Soliga tribal community for intergenerational learning

  • Exposure to folk music, traditional art, and indigenous practices

In just one year, OLA has made a tangible impact on communities and learners:

15 students trained from diverse regions of India
20 indigenous seed varieties conserved through community seed banks
2,000+ native trees planted as part of our afforestation initiative
500+ hours of agroecology training provided
10+ community engagement programs conducted with Soliga tribal children
